There is a quote I have been staring at for a few days now. “Man’s mind, once stretched by a new idea, never regains its original dimensions”. Oliver Wendell Holmes said it but it really captures how I think about corporate worship experience. If we are never stretched to experience, consider, or worship God in new ways, we will continue in our habitual or routine quest to bless God. This is not entirely bad and certainly not sinful, but dare I say it, it’s boring! And if there is anything I am sure of about God, it is that He is never boring. How sad that some feel corporate worship is their duty, putting their time in so they can get to something more exciting, more thrilling, or more fun than being in the presence of God.
At gathering we believe in inviting. We often say, “we don’t beg…we invite”. And so every week we wipe the board clean (literally) and start a fresh and creative quest to invite you to worship God. Our invitations are sometimes subtle and sometimes not. We’ll invite you to bless God and experience His presence differently every week. It’s up to you to R.S.V.P. Just imagine what will happen as our community allows worship to be as not-boring as our God.
